Dear Mr. Riess,
I hope to find you healthy and in good spirit.
I am taking this opportunity to inform you that one of my responsibilities as a Consular Officer is to provide services to Canadian citizens detained in the State of Arizona and to keep in touch with them on an ongoing basis.
I have taken the liberty of enclosing an updated version of our publication entitled A Guide for Canadians Imprisoned Abroad, which is specifically targeted at incarcerated Canadians. Its prime objective is to inform Canadians detainees, their families and friends about available assistance and advice.
Should you require further information, do not hesitate to contact the Consulate General in writing at the above mailing address.

Dear Miss Dextraze:
On July 6, 2010 I received a letter from you (dated June 30,2010)and the booklet entitled "A Guide for Canadians Imprisoned Abroad". Allow me to say I sincerely appreciate your consideration.
There is one question,in particular, which has been troubling me since your letter arrived. Exactly how did you come to know that I am currently detained by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office?
Of course, I am certain you are quite busy, however,if you do have the time to respond I would certainly appreciate it.
I thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.

Dear Mr. Riess,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in response to your letter dates July 8, 2010, in which you enquired as to how I had been informed of your present location.
A request for a travel document was received in our office in December 2009 from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. As this document was never returned to us, I contacted the Deportation Officer who sent us the request to enquire about your present status. I was informed that you had chosen to appeal the removal order, and that meanwhile Maricopa County had informed them of an outstanding warrant in your name and that you had been released from ICE custody to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. I was able to locate you by contacting them.
I hope this answers your question, and invite you to contact me again should you require more information.

Dear Miss Dextraze:
I have received your letter dated August 12, 2010. And I thank you for the information.
Again, I appreciate your concern and your offer of assistance. I shall keep your information available in the event I find myself in need of assistance. Fortunately, my present situation is not so dire and I am sure there are others more in need than myself.

Dear Miss Dextraze:
I am writing to inform you that I expect I will be returned to ICE custody soon and I am sure they will be contacting you again for a travel document.
I wish to emphasize at this time that, although ICE alleges I am a Canadian citizen I have not made such a claim. And I certainly have not made any claim to ICE or the DHS that I was born in Canada.
I emphasize this because I do not wish to run into any legal complications or problems with immigration officials in Canada.
If you have any questions or you foresee any complications with the issuance of a travel document please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Dear Mr. Riess,
I am writing in response to your letter dated November 29, 2010.
Based on the information I have gathered from previous cases, the US has already determined you are a Canadian citizen, which has been confirmed by our office when we issued travel documents in your name for your return to Canada. Upon your release from state custody, you will be transferred to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to undergo immigration proceedings. However procedures have changed since we last issued a travel document in your name and an Emergency Travel Document will be required to enable you to travel back to Canada. ICE will send us an official request for this document which will include an application for a Canadian passport (which they will provide to you).
A verification of your file indicates that we have not yet received documentary evidence of your Canadian Citizenship which is required to enable us to issue you a travel document once we receive the official request from ICE. I would be grateful if you could send me your original birth certificate or have it sent to my attention within the briefest delay. Certified copies will be made, the original either kept on file here or returned to you or the person of your choice as per your instructions. Failure to do so will result in significant delays in the issuance of the travel document and increase the amount of time spent in ICE custody.
